First Snow of the winter

It started snowing this afternoon and has quickly become treacherous. We're supposed to get a few centimeters, but we've got that already. The cat is all excited but just sticks her head outside and then runs all over the house. We made a nice toasty fire in the fireplace, and I'm going to curl up with a good book!

Trip to Quadra Island in September

We went up to Quadra Island in September for a long weekend. It is one of the Gulf Islands in Discovery Passage, between Campbell River on Vancouver Island and the mainland B.C. We stayed in Tsa-kwa-Luten Lodge, which is run by the Cape Mudge Indian Band. It is beautiful, right on the shore, looking across to Campbell River. In the summer, the cruise ships pass right in front on their way up to Alaska. We visited the Lighthouse, and an Indian village. When we walked through the village, two dogs escorted us every where. You can see them in the photo with me and the totem pole. A really cute sight was the little seal sunning himself on a rock off the beach.

Our house

This is the back and front of our place, taken a few days ago. No snow yet, I don't think we'll have any until January. Right now the temps are staying above freezing.

More pictures

A few more pictures from around town. The second from the top is of an eagle's nest with a parent eagle guarding it. It overlooks the shore, so they are watching for fish. We have quite a few bald eagles around here this time of the year. At the bottom is a picture of a quaint store in town. Those are wooden cats on the fence. Their motto is "Don't need it? We got it!"

Qualicum Beach Photos

Qualicum Beach is a resort town on the east coast of Vancouver Island. We are about a 30 minute drive north of Nanaimo, where we can catch the ferry over to Vancouver on the mainland. The top photo is of the church I belong to, Saint Mark's Anglican. It was built in 1926, so is fairly old for here. On the left is our Town Hall and library with the clock tower. It chimes just like Big Ben on the quarter hour. At Christmas, it plays carols. These pictures were taken on a beautiful sunny day in November.
